Extension of Time Granted to File Comments on Proposed FCRA Jury Instructions

The Committee on Standard Jury Instructions in Civil Cases filed its proposed jury instructions on the Florida Civil Rights Act with the Florida Supreme Court on February 23, 2016.  The Florida Bar News release is listed here, and the detailed filings to date are available here (See SC16-323).  Additional instructions for filing and serving comments (except as to the current due date) can be found in the news release linked above.

Since the news release was issued, the Executive Council of the Labor and Employment Law Section requested, and the Supreme Court granted, a general extension until June 1, 2016, for any interested persons to comment on the proposals.  At our Long-Range Planning Retreat and Executive Council meeting on May 14, 2016, the Executive Council also discussed whether the Executive Council should take any position with respect to the proposed instructions.  After debate and consideration of various motions, the Executive Council decided that due to the diversity of opinions as to the instructions, the Executive Council would not take a position as a group.  However, members of the Section are encouraged to review the proposals and file any comments you feel appropriate by the June 1, 2016 deadline.
